MOVING SALE

As most of you know I no longer create art, so here are some artworks that have been part of my personal collection. Because I am moving abroad, I must let go of some of the artworks I have created over the last 30 years. This becomes your chance to own a valuable piece of art for less than its normal price AND to help me pay for a container that’ll take my belongings to Europe. It turns out they are too many :) Suggested prices: 40% of the retail value or pay what you wish.

THE VIOLIN SERIES

For these sculptural collages I used real violins that were saved from being destroyed. I put together multiple elements, to transform the musical instruments into visual music: I cropped, rearranged and recomposed the familiar classical shape of the violins—to give them a new dimension and a fresh meaning. I added layers of colors, handmade shapes, found objects and printing blocks that bring yet another dimension of sound—words. These pieces express my perception of music through the means of visual art. I have a very few of these pieces left, so take your pick now.

THE ORGANIC PAINTINGS

I call these the Organic paintings because all the materials i’ve used are natural—real leaves from Central Park in NYC, cotton canvas, pure pigments and resin. They are usually large format because of the nature of the materials I used. There are only 4 of these paintings left.

THE CLASSICAL PAINTINGS

There are very few paintings of this series left. They are from my early years in the USA. In this series I used the techniques of the old masters—grounding and mixing my own paint, just as they did. The colors are not mixed on a canvas, but are applied in very thin transparent layers of paint. Each layer has to dry completely before applying the next layer. The various layers “mix” in the retina of the eyes to create the color. Initially the paintings were 2-dimensional, then I began to combine abstract sculpture with the classical paintings. Eventually that lead me to create more abstract works that became the Violin series.

THE NOTES SERIES

This is a collection of very intimate paintings, which started with ordinary post-it notes, placed on the walls of my studio. They reveal one of the ways in which I supported myself in times of change or turmoil. The notes share various thoughts, conclusions, revelations, quotes, beliefs and affirmations, which served as daily reminders of who I would like to be.

Once I had integrated the messages, the notes left the wall of my studio and became part of a painting. I relied on my intuition to make the “right” placement on the canvas. The final order of the messages reveal a new meaning, in an unexpected context, giving me clues of what areas of my life to pay closer attention to. In a way, the messages are grounded into the canvas. Depending on where the notes “fall” in the painting, they begin a new dialogue, pointing to solutions or uncovering subtle energies in my relationships with me, with others, and with the world.

My hope and my intention is that the paintings do the same for you.
